Our bell turret - the parish logo - is in desperate need of repair (see the photographs). Major works are required to ensure the turret, and therefore the church, are safe and sustainable for the foreseeable future.
The PCC has appointed an architect to prepare drawings and specifications; we have "List B" approval from the Diocese to commence the project; and a local builder has been appointed. An initial Ecological Assessment took place in March which did not see visible evidence of bats, but further night time assessments will be made later in the year.
The estimated project cost is £40,911 (!!!).
- The PCC have committed £5,000
- The Friends of St. Katharine's have committed £12,000
- Donations from members of the parish have raised £4,225 [as of April 12, 2024] [Thankyou!]
We have submitted grant applications to four charities which support repair and restoration of historic buildings, from which we should hear by June. Our fingers are firmly crossed!!! But we very much need your help, and will be very grateful for any gifts and support you can give.
We urgently need to begin the work this summer, to avoid the further deterioration which would happen through another winter. The work should take 4-5 weeks depending on the weather.
The more support we can demonstrate from you and other friends, neighbours and members of the parish - the more money we can raise - the more favourably the grant-giving bodies will look on us. Please help with a donation if you can!
