On March 11, 2024, National Gas employees - with support from their contractor team at Murphy’s - volunteered their time to garden and tidy the outdoor space at St Katharine’s Church in Wormington.
The gas transmission company is currently working on a project to increase capacity to transport gas by reinforcing the existing network between Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire and Churchover in Warwickshire. As part of these works, a new section of gas pipeline is being built between the existing facilities near Wormington and Honeybourne. Improvements for the compressor station at Wormington are also being planned.
As part of National Gas’ commitment to enhance the communities they serve, Huw Riley (Project Delivery Manager) arranged for a team of National Gas staff to assist Wormington Parish Church with gardening and cleaning needed in order to get the church gardens ready for the marquee to be used as a temporary village hall for the summer months. The team helped with clearing grass and bracken, removed tree stumps near the fencing, uncovered gravestones and general gardening, along with polishing inside the church.
Huw Riley, Project Delivery Manager at National Gas, said:
"This is a fantastic way to give back to the communities we work in. It has been great to see the visual changes in just one day of work”.
Angela Piercy, Church Warden for St Katharine’s, said:
"We take a huge amount of pride in our church, so it’s great to see the outside much improved, ready to support the community events taking place over the coming months. Our grateful thanks go to National Gas for doing a fantastic job.”
Angela went on to say:
"They did a fantastic job clearing the graves, levelling the paths, weeding the paths, clearing grass cuttings and polishing the brass. It looks fantastic."
